Today – 7/13/2013
Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Event Description
The Root House was built circa 1845 by Hannah and William Root. Mr. Root was one of Marietta’s earliest merchants and its first druggist. He was the first merchant to receive a shipment of goods on the Western and Atlantic Railroad. The house is one of the oldest surviving frame houses in Marietta. Volunteer docents tell the story of the Root family and describe what life was like in Marietta in the 1850s during tours of the house Wednesday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Furnished with period furniture in the fashion of the 1850s, each room shows evidence of middle class lifestyle. Visitors can also walk among the flower beds and vegetable plots filled with plants that were available in Cobb County before 1860 and shop for historic books and gifts in the museum store.
