Event Description
On April 15, 1912, Titanic, the world's largest and most iconic ship, sank after colliding with an iceberg in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. One hundred years later, this exhibit pays tribute to the legendary story of the ship and its passengers. The exhibit showcases 212 artifacts recovered from eight research and recovery expeditions to Titanic’s wreck site, a gallery devoted to local connections where visitors can learn how the sinking of the great ship resonated in Georgia, historically accurate room recreations, a simulated iceberg chilled to 28 degrees that allows visitors to feel the temperature of the North Atlantic the night Titanic sank, and the latest video from the wreck site. The exhibit also features the premiere showing of "Jewels of the Titanic," an exhibit bringing together 15 of the most prestigious artifacts recovered from the wreck site, including diamonds, sapphires, pearls and gold jewelry that once belonged to some of the ship's wealthiest passengers
Listen to Kate Sweeney's feature on John Lemley's visit to "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" that aired on WABE 90.1FM's "City Café."
