Event Description

Author Bill Bryson reads from and signs copies of his latest book at this event. With his signature wit, charm and humor, Bryson has captivated readers with his travel tales and observations. He will make his first Georgia Center for the Book appearance for his latest book, "One Summer: America 1927," a summer that chronicled the highs and lows of the America spirit. The summer of 1927 began with one of the signature events of the 20th century: Charles Lindbergh became the first man to cross the Atlantic by plane nonstop. Meanwhile, Babe Ruth was beginning his assault on the home run record; Alvin “Shipwreck” Kelly sat atop a flagpole in Newark, N.J., for 12 days setting a new record; Al Capone tightened his grip on the illegal booze business; the first true “talking picture,” Al Jolson’s The Jazz Singer, was filmed; and four powerful central bankers met in secret session and made a fateful decision that virtually guaranteed a future crash and depression.
