Atlanta travel statistics show how much movement is handled by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport across different parts of 2025. The ATL Monthly Airport Traffic Reports recorded 7,542,203 total passengers in January, 8,801,341 in April, 9,628,888 in May, and 9,613,648 in June. The same reports also measured aircraft operations and cargo, giving a useful view of Atlanta’s travel infrastructure beyond passenger counts.

Passenger activity at a glance
The airport’s reported passenger total rose from January to May, then stayed almost level in June. January’s total was 7,542,203 passengers. April recorded 8,801,341, May recorded 9,628,888, and June recorded 9,613,648. These are monthly airport totals, not a count of unique visitors to Atlanta: a passenger may be counted more than once when traveling through the airport, and the reports combine passengers traveling on and off flights.
The four reported monthly totals provide a clear view of the scale of Atlanta’s air travel activity:
- January 2025: 7,542,203 total passengers.
- April 2025: 8,801,341 total passengers.
- May 2025: 9,628,888 total passengers.
- June 2025: 9,613,648 total passengers.
May was the highest of the four reported months, while January was the lowest. June was only slightly below May in the airport’s reported total, indicating that the two months were closely matched in this dataset. The reports do not provide a full-year total, so these figures should be read as selected monthly observations rather than an annual estimate.
The source for each passenger measure is the ATL Monthly Airport Traffic Report January 2025, ATL Monthly Airport Traffic Report April 2025, ATL Monthly Airport Traffic Report May 2025, and ATL Monthly Airport Traffic Report June 2025. The supplied source labels identify these as monthly ATL reports; the figures are presented with their stated measurement months.
Domestic travel in Atlanta
Domestic passengers made up the larger reported passenger category in every month. The reports separate domestic passengers on from domestic passengers off, then provide a domestic passenger subtotal.
In January 2025, domestic passengers on totaled 3,179,463 and domestic passengers off totaled 3,214,095. The domestic passenger subtotal was 6,393,558. In April, the corresponding figures were 3,751,490 passengers on, 3,773,999 passengers off, and a subtotal of 7,525,489.
Domestic activity was higher in May and June. May recorded 4,176,158 domestic passengers on and 4,105,600 domestic passengers off, for a domestic subtotal of 8,281,758. June recorded 4,099,122 domestic passengers on and 4,138,012 domestic passengers off, producing a subtotal of 8,237,134.
The monthly domestic figures are useful for separating the direction of travel from the overall airport total:
- January: 3,179,463 on; 3,214,095 off; 6,393,558 subtotal.
- April: 3,751,490 on; 3,773,999 off; 7,525,489 subtotal.
- May: 4,176,158 on; 4,105,600 off; 8,281,758 subtotal.
- June: 4,099,122 on; 4,138,012 off; 8,237,134 subtotal.
January was the only reported month in which domestic passengers off exceeded domestic passengers on by more than the small directional differences visible in the other months. April also had more passengers off than on. May had more passengers on than off, while June again had more passengers off than on. These are airport traffic counts for each monthly reporting period, not a measure of how many Atlanta residents traveled.
The domestic passenger subtotal was the largest passenger subtotal in each month. This makes the domestic figures particularly relevant for readers comparing Atlanta’s air travel scale with its international activity, while keeping in mind that the two categories measure airport passenger movements rather than visitor spending, hotel stays, or attraction attendance.
International passenger traffic
International passenger activity was reported separately from domestic activity. January 2025 had 551,777 international passengers on and 596,868 international passengers off, for an international passenger subtotal of 1,148,645.
April recorded 627,514 international passengers on and 648,338 passengers off. Its international passenger subtotal was 1,275,852. May recorded 704,379 passengers on and 642,751 passengers off, for a subtotal of 1,347,130. June recorded 701,608 passengers on and 674,906 passengers off, for a subtotal of 1,376,514.
The reported international figures were:
| Month | International on | International off | International subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 2025 | 551,777 | 596,868 | 1,148,645 |
| April 2025 | 627,514 | 648,338 | 1,275,852 |
| May 2025 | 704,379 | 642,751 | 1,347,130 |
| June 2025 | 701,608 | 674,906 | 1,376,514 |
June had the highest international passenger subtotal among the four reported months, at 1,376,514. January had the lowest, at 1,148,645. The direction of international traffic also varied: in January and April, passengers off exceeded passengers on; in May and June, passengers on exceeded passengers off according to the reports.
Because these are airport passenger movements, they do not identify whether travelers were visiting Atlanta, connecting through the airport, or beginning or ending a trip elsewhere. The figures do show the international portion of the airport’s reported passenger activity for each stated month and geography category.
Aircraft operations by month
Aircraft operations count movements by aircraft category rather than individual passengers. The ATL reports listed domestic air carrier, air taxi, general aviation, and military operations, followed by a total aircraft operations figure.
Domestic air carrier operations were 52,977 in January 2025, 59,147 in April, 62,639 in May, and 61,395 in June. These were the largest aircraft-operation category in every reported month.
Air taxi operations were 836 in January, 606 in April, 504 in May, and 486 in June. General aviation operations were 599 in January, 618 in April, 578 in May, and 738 in June. Military operations were 15 in January, 13 in April, 6 in May, and 12 in June.
The complete reported aircraft totals were 61,610 operations in January, 67,455 in April, 71,043 in May, and 69,884 in June. May had the highest total aircraft operations in this group, while January had the lowest.
| Month | Air carrier | Air taxi | General aviation | Military | Total operations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January 2025 | 52,977 | 836 | 599 | 15 | 61,610 |
| April 2025 | 59,147 | 606 | 618 | 13 | 67,455 |
| May 2025 | 62,639 | 504 | 578 | 6 | 71,043 |
| June 2025 | 61,395 | 486 | 738 | 12 | 69,884 |
The category totals help explain why passenger counts and aircraft counts should not be treated as interchangeable. One aircraft operation is a movement in the report, while passenger totals count people traveling on and off flights. The airport reports therefore provide two different measures of travel scale: aircraft activity and passenger activity.
Cargo and mail handled
Atlanta’s reported airport activity also included freight and express, mail, and a grand total cargo measure. In January 2025, total freight and express were 44,391 metric tons, total mail was 863 metric tons, and grand total cargo was 46,159 metric tons.
April recorded 50,748 metric tons of freight and express, 539 metric tons of mail, and 52,768 metric tons of grand total cargo. May recorded 57,147 metric tons of freight and express, 710 metric tons of mail, and 59,223 metric tons of grand total cargo. June recorded 49,212 metric tons of freight and express, 546 metric tons of mail, and 51,217 metric tons of grand total cargo.
The cargo measures were:
- January 2025: 44,391 metric tons freight and express; 863 metric tons mail; 46,159 metric tons grand total cargo.
- April 2025: 50,748 metric tons freight and express; 539 metric tons mail; 52,768 metric tons grand total cargo.
- May 2025: 57,147 metric tons freight and express; 710 metric tons mail; 59,223 metric tons grand total cargo.
- June 2025: 49,212 metric tons freight and express; 546 metric tons mail; 51,217 metric tons grand total cargo.
May had the highest reported freight and express volume and the highest grand total cargo volume among these months. January had the lowest freight and express figure and the lowest grand total cargo figure. January also had the highest mail figure, at 863 metric tons, so mail did not move in the same monthly order as the broader cargo total.
Cargo tonnage is a different travel indicator from passenger volume. It describes goods and mail handled during the reporting month, while passenger statistics describe people on and off flights. The reports do not provide the contents, origins, destinations, or commercial value of the cargo, so the figures should be used as measured airport cargo volumes only.
Month-by-month airport comparison
Looking across the four selected reports, May 2025 stands out for total passengers, aircraft operations, freight and express, and grand total cargo. Its reported totals were 9,628,888 passengers, 71,043 aircraft operations, 57,147 metric tons of freight and express, and 59,223 metric tons of grand total cargo.
June followed closely in passenger activity, with 9,613,648 total passengers, but its 69,884 aircraft operations were below May’s 71,043. June’s freight and express total was 49,212 metric tons, and grand total cargo was 51,217 metric tons. International passenger activity was highest in June, at 1,376,514, even though its overall passenger total was slightly below May’s.
April occupied the middle of the reported passenger and operations range: 8,801,341 total passengers and 67,455 aircraft operations. Its international passenger subtotal was 1,275,852, and its grand total cargo was 52,768 metric tons. January was the lowest month in total passengers, total aircraft operations, freight and express, and grand total cargo among the four observations, with 7,542,203 passengers, 61,610 operations, 44,391 metric tons of freight and express, and 46,159 metric tons of grand total cargo.
| Month | Total passengers | Total aircraft operations | Grand total cargo |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 2025 | 7,542,203 | 61,610 | 46,159 metric tons |
| April 2025 | 8,801,341 | 67,455 | 52,768 metric tons |
| May 2025 | 9,628,888 | 71,043 | 59,223 metric tons |
| June 2025 | 9,613,648 | 69,884 | 51,217 metric tons |
These comparisons describe the four months covered by the ATL Monthly Airport Traffic Reports named above. They are not a forecast, annual projection, or estimate of future Atlanta travel. For trip planning, the figures are best understood as context for the scale of airport activity: Atlanta’s reported monthly traffic included millions of passenger movements, tens of thousands of aircraft operations, and cargo measured in tens of thousands of metric tons.
